Cravedog has been digging around in the independent music scene for half a century...well, in dog-years that is.

Founded in 1994 by Todd Crosby, Cravedog Records rapidly became Portland's premier independent label, first focusing on the city's thriving punk scene with releases from Apt. 3-G, Iommi Stubbs, Sissyface, Threscher and Nervous Christians, before turning towards rock, pop, and country, with consistently praised albums from Fernando, Little Sue, Richmond Fontaine, Luther Russell and Warren Pash.

 DISTRIBUTION

www.bdcdistribution.com
At Burnside Distribution Corp. (BDC), our passion for music and our fondness to help musicians and independent labels has grown into a full-fledged distribution company, with BDC selling to both regional and national one-stops and the entire music retail account base from mom & pops to the national chains. We are a full-service distribution company with a national presence.

Our company is committed to excellence. We have developed a submission policy that works quite well for us. Our three owners listen to every CD submitted to BDC and vote on them. When approved, we pick up new titles and labels and work our hardest to spread the joy of music to the consumer, through our retail outlets.

www.milesofmusic.com
Despite our entrenchment in the world of Americana (and whatever other music we like) Miles of Music was created to sell music to another marketplace entirely. By coincidence a magazine called No Depression had just started. Corrie Gregory and Jeff Weiss, two of the original owners, were fans of the music the magazine was covering and had a connection to the publishers.

A decision was made to advertise in that magazine so we mail order neophytes could figure out how to actually run this kind of business. We expected the magazine to last a few issues and disappear forever because, in our minds, we thought they would quickly run through all of the stories, quickly start repeating themselves and that would be it for them.

Miles of Music has grown to a staff of eight with a warehouse in North Hollywood, CA with customers in 26 countries.

www.cdbaby.com

CD Baby is a little online record store that sells CDs by independent musicians.

[In•de•pen•dent: (adj.) Not having sold one's life, career, and creative works over to a corporation.]

We're just a few people (details here) in a cool Portland, Oregon, CD warehouse that looks like a playground. We listen to every CD we sell before we sell it, so we can help you find other albums you'll like.

We only sell CDs that come directly from the musicians. No distributors. Musicians send us CDs. We warehouse them, sell them to you, and pay the musicians directly.

Cool thing: in a regular record deal or distribution deal, musicians only make $1-$2 per CD, if they ever get paid by their label. When selling through CD Baby, musicians make $6-$12 per CD, and get paid weekly.

In business, and thriving, since March 1998. We're the largest seller of independent CDs on the web.

E-ZINES

www.inmusicwetrust.com
In Music We Trust started out in July of 1997 as a vehicle in which to help expose talented artists to a larger audience.

Well, here we are four years later, a record label, a national PR company, and an e-zine.

With the publicity company in full swing, and the ability to scrap together every penny I could find, I decided to start a record label. Thus, the label side of In Music We Trust was born.

The point of this is, In Music We Trust started out four years ago as a zine that Ryan O'Neill and I did to cover great music and let others know of these bands we were blown away by. It has now grown into a PR company and a label, all out of the love of music.
