Do I need a barcode?
The majority of stores require a barcode to be on the tray card;
this is how retailers and distributors track sales and inventory.
You can apply for a barcode (UPC) from the Uniform Code Council
1-800 543 8137. Make sure you leave a couple of weeks as the process
takes some time and there is a fee involved. If you have any questions
when you get all the forms don't hesitate to call us and we can
always talk you through it. If you are only going to sell your
product at gigs or through alternative means you really do not
need a barcode on your product. Remember you can always get barcode
stickers at a later date.
How can I protect my original music / lyrics?
It is important to copyright any original music or lyrics so that
no-one can use it without your permission. Contact the Library
of Congress who will send you all necessary forms for you to complete.
Once you have done this you may want to contact BMI or ASCAP to
register your publishing.
What is a catalog number and why do I
have to have one?
All releases are referred to by this number
- It enables us to control all your parts to ensure your product
is perfect. Most record labels/distributors refer to releases
by catalog/matrix number. (this number also ties in with your
barcode number)
How can
I use cover tunes?
If you are using some one else copyrighted material you MUST have
a mechanical license. Here are some useful numbers: BMI (212)
586 2000 ASCAP (212) 621 6160 They can tell you who has the copyright.
What is glass mastering?
Glass mastering is a process that involves the transferring of
digital information from your master onto a "glass plate".
Stampers are then "grown" from this and these are used
to press your CDs.
